International Students Staying Information

    1. Foreigner registration

    A. Relevant students

    • Foreigners who wish to stay in Korea for more than 90 days;

    B. Submission document

    2. Extension of stay period

    A. Extension Period

    • Applications can be made 1~2 months before the visa expiration date. Students can do it after paying tuition.

    B. How to apply

    • Foreign students who have completed the registration of foreign students visit the immigration office and apply for the application on behalf of the staff in charge of international students at graduate schools;

    3. Academic fluctuations

    A. Drop out or take a leave of absence from school.

    • If dropping out or taking a leave of absence from school, he/she must leave the country within two weeks from the date of taking a leave of absence or dropping out of school;

    B. Graduation.

    • In case of graduation, he/she must leave the country or change his/her residence qualification within two weeks from the date of graduation.

    4. Part-time employment permission

    A. Relevant students

    • Part-time employment activities are allowed only within the period of stay as international students with degrees.

    B. Working hours of a master's or doctorate study visa holder;

    1. 1) Topik Grade 4 or higher score holders: 30 hours per week on weekdays (Monday to Friday) during the semester No restriction on working hours on Legal holidays, Saturdays, Sundays, and vacations
    2. 2) TOPIK Class 4 Non-Holders: Within 15 hours per week on weekdays (Monday to Friday)

    C. Areas permitted for employment

    • Except for manufacturing and construction industries, areas where part-time employment is usually allowed for students;
    • ☞ No individual extracurricular activities

    D. Documents to submit

    3. 3) Part-time employment confirmation (signatures of employers and employees in charge of foreign students are required)
    4. 4) One copy of the business license

    E. Important info Important Notes

    Where an employer changes the place of employment within the period of permission, he/she shall be reported within 15 days.

    • Restrictions on part-time employment for those with an average grade of C (2.0) or less;

    • Forced eviction or academic qualification may be revoked if a person is found to be employed without permission.

    • If a student receives a certain allowance through internships and participation in research projects (strictly limited to activities such as obtaining credits or writing papers under the supervision of a guidance professor), he/she shall be excluded from part-time employment permits.
      ※ Research projects do not need to be reported only if the university pays allowances in projects related to credit acquisition, or if an individual receives allowances through participation in projects in the university, they are subject to part-time job reporting.

    5. Other matters

    A. Change of residence qualification

    Where it is necessary to change his/her residence qualification, contact the staff in charge of international students in the Graduate School Administration Office or the Immigration Office (1345).


    B. Residential change report

    Where an international student moves their residence, they shall report the change of residence at the immigration office, City Hall, or the relevant Gu office within two weeks.


    C. Report passport renewal

    Where an international student's passport is renewed, he/she shall report it to the immigration office within 14 days as of the date of issuance;

    Article 14 (Supplementary subjects for prerequisites) Completion of a supplementary course for athletes with at least six credits when entering a doctorate program other than the major of a master's program;
    Article 15 (Acknowledgement of credits from other graduate schools) Six credits in master's program and nine credits in doctorate program are acceptable. Aliance universities are recognized within one-half of their graduation credits.

    Those who earn more than 18 credits for master's courses and 27 credits for doctorate courses and have an average grade of B (average grade 3.0) or higher.
    Article 32 (Qualifications for submission of thesis) A student who has completed all his/her completed credits, has an average grade of at least B (rated 3.0), passed the foreign language test and comprehensive examination, and has been recommended by an advisor
    Article 33 (Period fo submission of thesis) April and October for submission of thesis
    Article 51 (Cancellation of degree) Available to cancel if there is a defaming behavior (plagiarism or other illegal behaviors, etc.)
    Regulations about foreigner graduate school students Article 16 (Expel) It may be expelled in any of the following cases:
    1. Long-term absentees for at least 30 days per semester
    2. Significant violators of the Immigration Control Act and domestic laws;
    3. Student who fails to complete the registration within the prescribed period. (Excluding a deferrant to pay tuition fees)
    4. Student who is deemed to have no chance of mathematics due to illness, etc.

    Major Issues in Academic Affairs

    1. Major Requirements for Bachelor's Degree

    A. Doctorate program
    1. 1) Completion requirements
      • The period of the doctorate course shall be two years, and it shall be registered regularly for at least four semesters.
        ※ Failure to pay full-time scholarship if the regular semester is exceeded
      • At least 36 credits are required for completion, and six research credits and Korean-related credits are excluded.

    2. 2) Course application
      • At the beginning of each semester, students shall apply for not more than 12 credits per semester, and for the third and fourth semesters, they shall apply for the "Doctorate thesis research I, II (3 credits each)" courses.
      • Where one subject is changed, an application for change may be made within one week after the commencement of the course.
      • Subjects taken in the course of a master's program in this school shall not be re-completed in the course of a doctorate program, and if they have been completed, they shall be invalid.
      • ※ Necessary subjects for each department need to be identified in advance (consultation with guidance professors and department assistants)

    B. Master's program
    1. 1) Completion requirements
      • The master's course period shall be two years, and it shall be registered regularly for at least four semesters.
        ※ If you exceed the regular semester, you will not be able to receive the scholarship for the whole day.
      • At least 24 credits are required for completion, and two research credits and Korean-related credits are excluded.

    2. 2) Course application
      • At the beginning of each semester, students shall apply for not more than 12 credits per semester.
      • In the fourth semester, an application for a master's thesis research course (2 credits) shall be made.
        - If one course is changed, an application for change may be made within one week after the commencement of the course.
      • ※ Necessary subjects for each department need to be identified in advance (consultation with guidance professors and department assistants)


    2. Examination of the thesis research plan

    A. Preparation of a research plan

    A plan shall be prepared after discussing with the guidance professor and submitted to the head of the department.
    The plan shall record the research title (National, English), type of research, purpose of research, method of research, details of research, etc. in order for the examiners to fully understand the matters concerning the research.


    B. Submission period

    The plan shall be submitted to the head of the department by the semester immediately before the thesis request for a degree is submitted to the head of the department, and shall be reviewed through an open presentation meeting before the research can be conducted.


    C. Application for change of research plan

    When it is inevitable to change a research plan (discussion items, research details, etc.) under the guidance of a guidance professor, he/she shall submit an application for change of research plan to the graduate school for reconsideration.


    D. Guidance on the IRB review of the thesis research plan for the degree claim

    A research plan for a doctoral or master's degree request on research subjects for human or human-derived materials must be approved after deliberation by the Inje University IRB before submission to the Graduate School Administration Office. A notice of the results of IRB deliberation or a confirmation of exemption from deliberation shall be submitted within three months after the submission of the relevant research plan.

    B. Matters concerning the submission of the dissertation review.
    1. 1) The dissertation shall be described in Korean or foreign languages. If the department determines the method of writing a paper separately, it shall be accordingly.
    2. 2) Before submitting a paper review, the foreign language test (or substitution recognition) and comprehensive tests must be passed.
    3. 3) Student must be qualified to submit a paper prescribed by the department's internal regulations to submit a paper review.
